Molly Feldweg - With my brunch I helped the volunteers that didn’t get recognized get recognized at my church. Some of the volunteers were people, people who arrange the flowers for the seasons, or teen helper for the teachers of the church or the people who drive the elders of my church back and forth from their home and church. I hoped that with this brunch the volunteers felt good for what they are doing around the church. My brunch benefitted really everyone at my church. It benefitted the volunteers because more were not recognized before my brunch. It benefitted the congregation because they got to see volunteers that are not well known. All volunteers big or small should be recognized, no matter what. We could better recognize volunteers around the state and nation by holding volunteer recognition events like mine.
Ashley Stangl - For my project gold award project, I wanted to inform the community on the sport of crew. Not many people know what crew is. Most people believe that the only crew out there is stage crew. When people hear its rowing, they do not completely understand the amount of work it takes to row. They think that it's this simple arm motion but rowing on a crew team involves so much more than your arms. With this project, I hoped to teach people about crew and I hoped to teach people how to row on rowing machines. I believe that if the community learned about this sport that they will learn that it is something that should not be unappreciated. I think the community needs to learn about a new sport for those who enjoy trying new things and want to get active in a “heavy duty” team sport.
